Welcome
This sites tells you about some of the great harp activities in Coventry and Warwicksire. Our mission is to make the Celtic harp accessible to everyone in the area, as performers or audiences or through harp therapy. Over recent years, we've helped make this area a hotbed of harping, with a community of wonderful harpers eager to share the pleasures of the instrument.
We work in partnership with other organisations, and help run harp clubs for young people, evening classes where adults can learn the harp, and organise other events.
Happy 2010
Make sure you get your new diary up to date;
Edinburgh Internaional Harp Festival: 9-14 aPRIL
Herbert Harpotunties: 2nd Sat of each month - 9 Jan, 14 Feb, 14 Mar (not in April 'cos of the Harp Festival); 9 May.
We are hoping to get more harps to the English Country Music Weekend in Ampthill 18 - 20 June - this is a fantastic event for anyone interested in English Dance music for the harp (or any other instrument).
News on classes
Children's harp club stops for now
The Harp Club has it's winter finale on 2nd Decmber. Sadly, our teacher isn't able to keep coming up to Coventry in the new year. This means that the classes must stop for the time being. We are trying to find a way to keep the classes going, and will keep the harps at the Herbert as a foundation for the future. The young people in the class have shown real talent and commitment and this must be a huge frustration for them all.
Evening class under way
The evening class for adults has now started on Wednesdays in Wolston. [more details]
Next monthly harp session Saturday 9 January
This is a regular informal harp event for harpers to swap tunes etc and for the public (any age) to have a chance to experience this great instrument. It takes place at Coventry's Herbert Art Gallery & Museum Cafe - so lots of good cake to be had and all sorts of other things to explore in the museum for grown-ups and children. [read more]
Change in name
To reflect the work in Warwickshire, we'll start referring to ourselves as "Harpotunities: promoting the harp in Coventry & Warwickshire". Our constitution and bank account will remain "Small Harps for Coventry". This website will have an overhaul soon to reflect the change.
New sound files
For anyone wanting to keep up with the late night sessions in Edinburgh International Harp Festival, we've posted a heap of recordings from 2008. [read more]
